At least 15 Afghans, many of them elderly women, were killed and more than a dozen injured in a stampede in Jalalabad in Nangarhar province while waiting for visas from the Pakistan consulate, officials said Wednesday.
Two days ago, the section was closed down owing to security threats. An Afghan woman tried to sneak a hand grenade into the building, a security check had revealed.
Pakistan temporarily closed its consulate in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad because of "intervention" by the provincial governor and a lack of security, but an Afghan official said Saturday there was simply a misunderstanding and the matter would be resolved.
