According to a new law, Pakistani pilgrims must sign a Tawafi before leaving for Umrah and promise to refrain from begging at Islamic holy sites in Saudi Arabia.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): A new law is being implemented to suppress begging by some Pakistani nationals at Islamic holy sites in Saudi Arabia.
Following Riyadh's recent insistence on Islamabad to deal with this issue, the Pakistani Ministry of Religious Affairs has decided to take strict measures against beggars.
According to ISNA, Saudi news sources announced that these measures include pilgrims agreeing to an oath before leaving for Umrah in which they promise not to beg. Accordingly, tour operators and companies must obtain an affidavit from the pilgrims.
Violators of this law will face serious legal prosecution upon their return to Pakistan. In addition, Pakistani pilgrims will only be allowed to travel in groups and not individually.
