Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Today, Tuesday, thousands of supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan staged a demonstration in Islamabad under tight security, demanding Khan's release.
According to local media reports, anti-government protesters clashed with police in Islamabad, challenging the Pakistani government's ban on holding rallies in the capital and demanding Imran Khan's release.
The clash between protesters and police turned violent, and four Pakistani security forces were killed in Islamabad, and the Pakistani Interior Ministry confirmed their deaths.
A number of protesters were also injured in the clashes in the capital, and some have estimated the number of injured at more than 100. Pakistani security forces arrested 4,000 Imran Khan supporters.
According to initial reports, internet services in Pakistan have been disrupted following the widespread protests.
Images posted on social media showed Imran Khan's supporters breaking down barriers set up by security forces and the Pakistani government to prevent mass demonstrations in Islamabad, and despite the Pakistani government warning that it would fire on protesters, Imran Khan's supporters continued their demonstrations.
Late last night, Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned protesters that if protesters opened fire, the police would also fire on them.
"If you fire again, your bullet will be returned with bullets," he said.
News sources reported that police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters, killing at least one protester and injuring many others, including journalists.
