The latest attack in Farah province dashed hopes of some sort of a truce during Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, which started on Monday.

Talks between the Taliban movement and delegates from Afghanistan's government, scheduled for later this week in Qatar, were postponed indefinitely, AVA reported Thursday.

The Taliban says it will attend what it calls "intra-Afghan” talks in Moscow designed to bring together prominent Afghan figures, including former President Hamid Karzai, opposition figures, and tribal elders -- but no government officials.

 Political analysts believe that only an interim administration could help the ongoing peace process succeed.

U.S. diplomats held talks with Taliban delegates on Monday in the United Arab Emirates to discuss ways to end the war in Afghanistan, a Taliban spokesman and Afghan government officials said.
