Up to 42 insurgents have been killed and 37 other detained in military operations in different provinces within the past 24 hours, the Afghan Interior Ministry said on Sunday morning.
"Afghan National Police (ANP), army and NATO-led coalition forces launched seven joint clearance operations in Nangarhar, Laghman, Balkh, Kandahar, Helmand, Khost and Ghazni provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 42 armed Taliban insurgents and detaining 37 other suspects," the ministry said in a statement.
They also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without saying if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
The ALP also discovered and defused four remote-controlled mines as a result of security operation in the Khinjan District of Baghlan province, the statement added.
Militancy has been on constant rise since the Taliban launched its spring offensive on May 3 this year.
