French government on brink of collapse; far-left and far-right parties submit no-confidence motion
French left-wing and far-right parties have submitted a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Michel Barnier's cabinet in parliament, a move that puts his government at risk of collapse.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Rally party, told reporters in parliament on Monday that Barnier's government has made the situation worse and must step down.

Barnier was appointed prime minister in early September and if he wins a no-confidence vote, he would be the first French government since 1962 to fall due to a no-confidence vote.

According to Reuters, France is the second-largest economy in the eurozone after Germany, and the fall of its government could create a vacuum in the heart of Europe.

National Rally lawmakers and left-wing parties have enough votes to topple the government. A vote on the no-confidence vote in Barnier's government is expected to take place on Wednesday. Le Pen has insisted that her party's lawmakers will vote no confidence in Barnier.

The no-confidence vote came after Barnier threatened to try to push through the social security bill without a vote in parliament if National Assembly lawmakers did not support it.

Mathilde Pannot, a left-wing member of parliament, said: "We are in political chaos because of Barnier's government and Emmanuel Macron's presidency."

In response to the opposition lawmakers' move, Barnier urged other lawmakers not to vote for the no-confidence motion, warning: "The French will not forgive us for putting personal interests above the future of the country."
