Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Pakistani government has announced the possibility of declaring martial law in the Pakistani capital to confront anti-government demonstrations.
Supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, who have been carrying out anti-government demonstrations from various cities in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to the capital since yesterday, reached the entrance to Islamabad’s red zone known as “D-Chowk” after 24 hours despite being blocked by security forces and bloody clashes.
The police had placed containers on the roads to prevent Imran Khan supporters from entering Islamabad, which Imran Khan supporters crossed by climbing on the containers.
Pakistani police then used tear gas to disperse the crowd and fired directly at the protesters, killing three and injuring several others.
The protesters, who are demanding the release of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, are aiming to reach D-Chowk in front of the country's parliament to hold a sit-in.
Meanwhile, protesters ran over Pakistani soldiers with a car yesterday, killing four soldiers and injuring five others.
The Pakistani army, which is called in in emergencies, was then deployed in parts of Islamabad, including the diplomatic area.
"It is easy for us to respond with bullets. If our soldiers fire, there will be no protesters there in five minutes. But we say, exercise restraint, as their lives may be lost," Pakistan's interior ministry said.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, which has called for protests, has not yet commented on the incident.
According to them, police forces in Islamabad have fired directly at people.
Fahim Khan, the PTI spokesman for Karachi, said: “They are firing at us, look at the direct fire. We are not afraid of these bullets. Think about what will happen to you if Imran Khan’s supporters come after you.”
Islamabad police have also confirmed that three people were killed and several others were injured in the direct fire on the protesters.
Pakistani authorities hold Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, responsible for the deaths of the protesters, who had urged people to reach D-Chowk by all means.
On the other hand, Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, announced: “We will not leave D-Squad until Imran Khan comes among us. I will be the last one to leave D-Squad.
