Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The party wrote in a statement on Wednesday: “In view of the government’s brutality and plans to turn the federal capital into a slaughterhouse for unarmed citizens, we announce a temporary suspension of our peaceful protests.”
The PTI says dozens of its members were killed and hundreds injured in the government’s “deadly” crackdown on Tuesday night.
The party wrote on its X account: “33 bodies have been transferred to one hospital alone, while the rest are still lying in D-Chowk [opposite the Pakistani parliament] and surrounding areas.”
Shahbaz Gul, a former aide to Imran Khan and a leader of the party, also wrote on his Instagram account that more than 100 people were killed in the government crackdown on Tuesday night and that Islamabad was trying to hide the bodies.
The party posted pictures of some of its dead members on its Instagram account. Shafqat Abbas Awan, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliament, also posted a video message saying that “thousands” of people were injured in the government crackdown.
The PTI said it would announce its decision on the future of the protests later and asked the country’s Supreme Court and the United Nations to look into the matter.
Protests by PTI supporters aimed at freeing Imran Khan from prison began across Pakistan on Monday, December 25.
Thousands of party supporters marched to Islamabad on Monday morning to sit in the square in front of the Pakistani parliament, known as “D-Chowk.”
