TET-A and the Norwegian Committee host children with disabilities in Kabul
Vocational and technical education department opened the two-day South-South-North symposium in Kabul today. This symposium was held with the support of the Norwegian Committee for Afghanistan and the presence of several national and international organizations.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: During his opening remarks, Mawlawi Ghulam Saeed Ehsas, Deputy of TVET-A, emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing educational resources for people with disabilities. He reported that approximately 22 dedicated educational centers are currently operational across various provinces and confirmed that the authority is actively working to establish at least one center in each province. He also underscored the need for international collaboration in this initiative, urging relevant global partners to streamline their efforts and align closely with national objectives.
Furthermore, Mawlawi Ehsas appealed to the international community, encouraging them to separate educational and humanitarian support from political considerations to ensure sustained assistance in these essential areas.
In addition, Dr. Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister of Economy, commended the organization of this symposium, stressing that dedicated support for children with disabilities, along with assistance for their families, is critical to ensuring these individuals become productive members of society.
Tarjei Magnus Watredal, Head of the Norwegian Committee for Afghanistan, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the symposium’s aim to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities and prevent social exclusion. He noted that his organization is committed to supporting Afghanistan’s efforts, especially in areas such as environmental protection, wherever possible.
The symposium, which will continue over the next two days, will address key topics, including enhancing support mechanisms for individuals with disabilities, expanding their access to education and employment, and exploring additional avenues for support and collaboration./Bakhtar News
