17 soldiers, 96 insurgents killed in Boko Haram attack in Chad
Chad's army said on Monday that 17 army soldiers and 96 insurgents were killed in an attack by Boko Haram rebels on a military base in the country.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Chadian army spokesman Isaac Achik told national television that the incident took place in the Lake Chad area, but did not provide further details.

The Lake Chad region has witnessed attacks by insurgents, including Boko Haram and fighters affiliated with the Islamic State group in West Africa, this year.

The area has seen relative calm and a decline in violence since the Chadian army's operation to suppress extremist groups in 2020, but has once again become the scene of violence and deadly clashes.

Last month, 40 Chadian soldiers were killed in a militant attack on a military base in the Lake District, an incident that prompted President Mohamed Debi Into to launch a military operation to suppress Boko Haram in the area.

The terrorist group Boko Haram emerged in northeastern Nigeria more than a decade ago with the aim of establishing Islamic law and countering Western education, and then spread to West African countries, including Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
