Khalilur Rahman Haqqani, Acting Minister of Refugees and Returnees, met and talked with Mrs. Veronica, the EU Ambassador to Afghanistan, in her office today.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: According to a statement issued by the Ministry, the meeting addressed a range of critical issues, including the plight of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran, the forced deportation of Afghan nationals from Germany and other European countries, as well as efforts to permanently resettle IDPs within Afghanistan. Both sides also discussed mobilizing additional international aid to provide essential support for these vulnerable groups.
In the meeting, Minister Haqqani expressed his appreciation for the European Union’s continued support and assistance to Afghan refugees. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that aid is delivered directly to those in need, particularly in areas such as housing, job creation, and economic support, which are fundamental to improving the long-term well-being of displaced individuals.
In response, Ambassador Veronika reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to addressing refugee issues, recognizing them as a collective responsibility. She announced that the European Union, in collaboration with United Nations aid agencies, has already contributed €125 million in support of refugees and vulnerable populations in Afghanistan, with an additional €36 million in assistance planned by the end of the year.
As a key outcome of the meeting, both sides agreed to establish a joint technical committee to develop a comprehensive mechanism for effectively coordinating refugee assistance and addressing their challenges in a sustainable manner./Bakhtar News
