Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Rejecting the statements of the Russian Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tajikistan said on Monday: "We have never opposed the resumption of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization-Afghanistan contact group."
In a conversation with "Asia Plus" media and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the coordinator of Tajikistan emphasized: Within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Tajikistan has continuously emphasized the necessity of dialogue on Afghanistan's issues and has never opposed the activities of this group.
He further noted that the Tajik side, including at the meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, had suggested that "an expert discussion on Afghanistan's issues be started in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization."
The special representative of Russia for Afghanistan had previously announced that the government of Tajikistan is the only member against the resumption of the contact group of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization-Afghanistan.
Referring to the recent meeting of the foreign ministers of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana, he said: The member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization supported the resumption of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization-Afghanistan working group. Our Tajik partners still have special considerations, but we hope that they will reconsider their position soon.
According to this report, since the return of the Islamic Emirate to power, this is the first time that the discussion of Afghanistan's presence in the talks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has been raised.
