Deadly passenger train derailment in Pakistan
At least 15 people were killed and more than 40 injured after a passenger train derailed in southern Pakistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Local Pakistani media reported that at least 15 people were killed when a train derailed in the south of the country.
 
According to the AFP news agency, Mohsen Sial, one of the railway officials, told HUM News: "Hazara Express was traveling from Karachi to Abbottabad". According to reports, about 10 wagons have derailed.
 
At least 15 people died and more than 40 people were injured, Pakistan's state TV channel reported, quoting railway officials. This rail accident happened near the Sahara railway in the city of Nawabshah in the southern province of Sindh.
 
Accidents are common in depreciated railway network of Pakistan. For years, successive governments have sought funding to upgrade the rail network as part of China's Belt and Road Initiative for infrastructure projects.
 
In June 2021, two trains collided near Deharki in Sindh state, which left at least 65 dead and around 150 injured.
 
Earlier in October 2019, at least 75 passengers died in a fire on the "Tazgam" high-speed train. In 2005, more than 100 people were killed after two trains collided in the city of "Ghotki" in Sindh.
