The Chief Executive of the Government of National Unity Abdullah Abdullah has said that the Taliban group has so far not decided to hold talks with the Afghan government and the Afghan nation to find a negotiated settlement to the ongoing conflict in the country.
He made the remarks during a meeting of the Council of Ministers which was organized before noon time today.
Abdullah further added that he was confident that Taliban remains one of the major obstacles on the way for peace process as the group has so far not decided to hold talks with the Afghan government and the Afghan nation, emphasizing it is our responsibility not to leave any excuse for Taliban in this regard.
He also added that the Afghan nation loses opportunity with each day passing with conflict and war.
According to Abdullah, the Chabahar port is one of the examples of the opportunities being missed by the nation due to war and violence, warning that Afghanistan would lose the opportunity to use the port if the security is not properly maintained.
This comes as efforts are underway to find a negotiated settlement to the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan.
The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad had earlier emphasized on resumption of direct talks with the Afghan government but the Taliban group has so far refrained from participating in direct talks with the government.
