Jalalabad consulate issue to be resolved, FMs agree
Kabul and Islamabad on Monday agreed on continued cooperation under the Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS).
AVA- Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani phoned his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Foreign Office spokesman said.
The two sides agreed to resolve security issues concerning Pakistan’s consulate in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.
Qureshi renewed Pakistan’s commitment towards peace and stability in Afghanistan. He said peace in Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan, as indeed the entire region.
A day earlier, the Pakistani minister called the closure of the consulate an issue of concern. The diplomatic mission was temporarily shut down over alleged interference from the Nangarhar governor.
However, the governor has denied the allegation as groundless, blaming the diplomatic mission for inordinate delays in issuance of visas to the Afghans.
