Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the National Environmental Protection Agency published a newsletter saying that the head of this agency, Maulavi Matiul Haq Khalis, in a meeting with the members of the climate change and environment coordination group, emphasized the need for joint cooperation to deal with environmental challenges.
The newsletter states that in this meeting, they presented a report on climate change factors, opportunities, challenges, adaptation, combating climate change, renewable energy, international commitments, and other environmental issues that were discussed in the workshop, and also made suggestions.
At the same time, Maulvi Matiul Haq Khals stated that environmental pollution was created after the industrial revolution and advanced countries are the main cause of climate change, and emphasized that the widespread destruction of the country's environment requires years of efforts to rebuild.
He also pointed to the effects of the wars of occupation in the country and said that the use of explosives, gunpowder and even the "mother of bombs" in addition to destroying the environment, has severely affected the physical and mental health of the society.
Mr. Khales called the increase in air pollution an enemy of silence, which gradually threatens people's health, and added that public awareness about environmental protection is effective, and praised volunteer and educated groups for participating in this matter.
It should be noted that Afghanistan has suffered serious losses from climate change and the United Nations aid in combating climate change is said to be insignificant.
