22 students were killed after a school building collapsed in Niger
The local authorities of Niger say that at least 22 children have died and more than 130 people have been injured due to the collapse of a school building in Plateau state of this country.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: "Sant" Academy, which was located in Jos, the capital of the state, collapsed yesterday morning (Friday) while the students were inside the school, and the children were buried under the rubble.

Volunteer rescuers used excavators, hammers and bare hands to break the concrete of the collapsed building and remove iron bars to reach many trapped people.

Police have told reporters that at least 22 children died as a result of the collapse of the school building, and many others were treated in local hospitals.

It is estimated that this school has more than 1000 students.

The cause of the collapse of the building is not known yet, but local residents say that the incident occurred after three days of heavy rain in this area.

"Christine Mondwat", the representative of the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF in Nigeria, wrote in his account on the X social network: I am devastated by the news of the tragic death of young people at the Academy of Saint.

He wrote: Children full of dreams were taking exams when the school building collapsed.

According to ISNA, in recent years, several large buildings have collapsed in Nigeria, which experts attribute to a combination of improper construction and low-quality materials.

In 2021, at least 45 people were killed due to the collapse of a multi-story building under construction in a wealthy neighborhood of Lagos, the capital of Niger.
