Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Mike Pompeo, the former US Secretary of State, has severely criticized the management of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan by the government of Joe Biden, the current president of that country.
In a tweet this morning (Tuesday, July 4, 2023), Pompeo called the recent report of the US State Department on the process of evacuation from Afghanistan a "cover-up" of mistakes.
He added: "They try to make others guilty and take the blame away from themselves; but they don't explain why they [the Trump administration] abandoned our conditions-based approach."
The former US Secretary of State added that the Biden administration also does not explain why it left Bagram Air Base before the evacuation of civilians and why it announced September 11, 2021 as the final date for leaving Afghanistan.
Pompeo called the situation a "total failure of leadership" and added that the disastrous management of Afghanistan encouraged Putin to invade Ukraine.
He said that "weakness is provocative and we will pay for these mistakes for years."
Recently, the US State Department has made public a part of its confidential report on the evacuation process from Afghanistan, in which the decisions of Donald Trump, the former president, and Joe Biden, the current US president, regarding the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, have been severely criticized.
It is stated in this report that the decision of both presidents, Biden and Trump, had serious consequences for the stability and security of the previous Afghan government.
Before the publication of this report, the White House published a report blaming the Donald Trump administration for the consequences of the withdrawal of that country's troops from Afghanistan.
The American soldiers left Afghanistan after the signing of the Doha Agreement between Zalmi Khalilzad, the US special representative for Afghanistan affairs, and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
This agreement was signed in a ceremony attended by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
