Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Qalandar Ebad; Acting Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate, who recently visited the Islamic Republic of Iran for a few days, said in a press conference in Kabul today (Tuesday, September 13) that the Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic of Iran has pledged to provide medical education and increase health capacities to Afghanistan.
According to Mr. Ebad, an understanding was reached in the G5 meeting with Iran to prevent the spread of infectious diseases between the two countries.
Ebad added that 4 countries, including Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq, participated in the G5 meeting, in which a memorandum of understanding was signed on the prevention and control of communicable diseases at the borders of several countries in the region.
He said that a representative of the World Health Organization had also participated in this meeting.
He added that we are using Iran's health capacities for self-sufficiency and the development of Afghanistan's health society to meet the needs of our medical society.
Acting Ministry of Public Health added that Iran has committed to increasing hospital capacity, facilitating health visas and completing Imam Khomeini hospitals in Afshar and Bamyan province in the field of heart surgery.
He stated that we have reached an understanding with the Iranian side that they will import standard medicines from Iran and also that our medical technical teams will have a continuous dialogue regarding the health priorities of the two countries.
Acting Minister of Public Health also stated; in the past year, we had more than one million births, of which 584 mothers died during childbirth.
He also stated that the political and economic situation in the past year had negative effects on the provision of health services.
It should be mentioned that the Acting Minister of Public Health had recently traveled to the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to participate in the G5 meeting and sign memorandums of cooperation in health sectors.
The "G5" meeting consists of the countries of Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and the representative of the World Health Organization and was held in Tehran with the aim of creating a plan to control and prevent contagious diseases at the borders. Afghanistan's health has been successful.
