The security forces, according to the statement, after locating the hideout of Mullah Nurgul the commander of Taliban in Lash Wa Juwayn district, launched operation on Friday afternoon, killing him and three of his fighters on the spot.
Without providing more details, the statement said that the security forces would continue to target the militants elsewhere in the country.
Confirming the strike, governor of Farah province Mohammad Shuaib told media that the "notorious Mullah Nurgul who served as shadow district chief for the restive Lash Wa Juwayn district was killed in operation conducted by the national army on Friday.
Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
