AVA- The source in the National Security Council (NSC) told media that following frequent extortion complaints from drivers and businessmen, the Farahrud Highway Commander Khudaidad was arrested by a delegation from Kabul to investigate the issue.
According to the source, Lt. Khudaidad would be transferred to Kabul for more investigation and would be referred to the judicial organs.
Nearly, 3,000 drivers of heavy vehicles and passenger buses closed the Herat-Kandahar highway for traffic in Mirdamad City two days back to register their protest against alleged extortion by police on the highway.
They said the purpose of their protest was to complain against growing extortion by police in Farah province.
Mohibullah Muhib, spokesman for Herat Police, said investigation into the matter would take place soon and police check-posts on the highway would be monitored.
