Sayed Hasan Mortazavi, the deputy of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul, discussed with his colleague Abdul Haq Akhund, the deputy directorate of counternarcotic of the Ministry of Interior, about the development of cooperation between Kabul and Tehran in the field of combating drug production and trafficking.

Police in the northern Jawzjan province set on fire 35 tons of illicit drugs including heroin and hashish on Monday, provincial police chief Abdul Wahid Wajdan said Tuesday.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani lashed out at the US destructive role in the region, adding that opium production in Afghanistan has sharply increased in the last 18 years since the US attack in 2001.

Iranian Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari warned that production of different types of narcotics has grown much in Afghanistan since the US started war against the country in 2001.

 Iran's Anti-Narcotics Police Chief Brigadier General Mohammed Masoud Zahedian said since the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 the opium production in the country has surged by 45 percent.
