Health minister hails tighter government measures of nationwide lockdown as effective in controlling spread of coronavirus

Fight against coronavirus in Afghanistan may require more than $100 million, its health minister said on Sunday.

Afghan authorities announced today the closure of this capital, starting Saturday and for 21 days, because of the outbreak of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in the Central Asian country.

Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz has warned that the coronavirus (COVID-19) could killed 110,000 people amid growing positive cases across the country.

Afghan Ministry of Public Health on Sunday confirmed the first death from COVID-19 as the total cases soared to 34 across the war-torn country.

One positive case of the deadly coronavirus was registered in northern Samangan province, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday, which brings the total number of confirmed cases in Afghanistan to five, Tolo News reported.
