Iran Condemns US Threat of Reinstatement of Sanctions on Venezuela
Iranian Foreign Minister Spokesman Nasser Kana’ani slammed Washington’s threat of reimposing sanctions on Venezuela’s oil sector as direct meddling in the internal affairs of countries and the violation of the United Nations Charter.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: Kana'ani on Thursday rapped “the US instrumental use of sanctions” as a tool to “meddle in other states' affairs”.
The spokesperson added resorting to such measures is tantamount to violation of the rights of governments and nations, human rights, and the international law norms.
The US has reimposed economic sanctions against a Venezuelan state-owned mining company and stresses it could go on to reimpose further sanctions on the South American country’s oil and gas sector after Venezuela’s Supreme Court barred main opposition candidate Maria Corina Machado from running for president last week.
In October, the Joe Biden administration lifted general economic sanctions targeting Venezuela’s mining and oil industries, in support of an agreement struck between President Nicolas Maduro and the opposition for the 2024 elections.
Tehran has repeatedly blasted the US addiction to sanctions, and blamed Biden for continuing former President Donald Trump's policies.
Kana’ani also stressed that the continuation of such actions will only strengthen "the determination and cooperation" of the independent states in standing against such meddlesome US policies./Fars News
