US intelligence report: The threat of terrorism has decreased in Afghanistan
The US has said in a new intelligence report that the revival of al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan is "unlikely" and that anti-terrorist measures by the Islamic Emirate have weakened the presence of ISIS in this country.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): On Friday (September 8), the CNN news website raised this matter by quoting two senior American officials whose names were not mentioned.

Meanwhile, a number of countries and analysts considered the re-entry of Islamic Emirate forces on the political scene of Afghanistan as the beginning of the return of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan. Concerns and accusations that, of course, did not come true.

In this report, CNN has discussed the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan. "ISIS Khorasan is a threat that we are certainly concerned about, but they are a completely different threat than what we saw from al-Qaeda on 9/11," one US official said.

American officials have said that intelligence data shows that ISIS Khorasan is under increasing pressure from the Islamic Emirate and many of its leaders have fled Afghanistan in recent months.

This American official said: "ISIS members in Khorasan, who are active in media issues and recruitment for foreign operations, are moving to neighboring countries so that they can be safe from the campaign of the Islamic Emirate."

These officials have also said that threats from al-Qaeda have reached their lowest level in decades.

One of these officials said: "Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan is at a historical low point, and its revival is unlikely." "The group's ability to threaten the United States from Afghanistan or Pakistan is probably at its lowest point in decades."

The ISIS Khorasan group, which is the branch of this terrorist group in Afghanistan, has attacked some sensitive points inside Afghanistan. These attacks have resulted in the death and wounding of dozens of civilians since the Islamic Emirate took power in 2021.

According to CNN, ISIS's goal is to weaken the Islamic Emirate's government and destroy public trust in the security guarantees provided by this government.

In 2021, ISIS in Khorasan carried out a terrorist attack during the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, during which 13 American soldiers were killed.

This group also attacked the embassies of Pakistan and Russia between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, and also targeted a hotel where Chinese business representatives are staying.

Before this, US President Joe Biden spoke about the cooperation of the Islamic Emirate to suppress terrorists.

Meanwhile, the security forces of the Islamic Emirate have announced that they will resolutely confront ISIS members in Afghanistan. In the last case, on Thursday last week, in the operation of the special forces of the Islamic Emirate in Badakhshan province; Twelve key members of the ISIS terrorist group were arrested.

The forces of the Islamic Emirate of August 15th entered the city of Kabul two years ago after the departure of Ashraf Ghani, the former president of Afghanistan.

The United States and other NATO member countries launched a military attack on Afghanistan in 2001 in response to the September 11 attacks of the same year in the United States, and since then, their military presence and occupation in Afghanistan has continued.
