Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: Nasser Kanani yesterday, Monday, June 12, in his weekly press conference with reporters, in response to a question about Iran's water rights from the Helmand River, said that "it was agreed that the Afghan side will take positive and new steps in Regarding the water rights of Hirmand, the necessary technical measures should be taken.
Referring to the "necessity of maintaining a positive atmosphere" between the two neighboring countries, Kanani said that "we expect the Afghan side to fulfill its responsibilities and show goodwill in this regard" regarding the delivery of Iran's water rights.
He added: "This issue is the right of the people of Iran, especially the people of Sistan and Baluchistan, and acting on it can become the basis for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in common issues."
But the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not give details about the new agreement with Afghanistan.
Previously, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in his latest comment on the recent developments in relations with Afghanistan, regarding the country's right to water from the Helmand River, said that good negotiations have been conducted between the parties, which are coming to a conclusion.
Dr. Hussain Amir Abdullahian said regarding the provision of water rights for this country from the Helmand River: Regarding the issue of water rights, we follow the issue from the legal and political path, and recently Mr. Kazemi Qomi, Iran's special representative for Afghanistan affairs and head of the embassy of the Islamic Republic In Kabul, Iran held talks with the ruling body of Afghanistan to resolve this issue in its own way.
He added: Fortunately, Afghanistan's ruling body has had good negotiations with Mr. Qomi, and we are achieving good results. Of course, after the dimensions of the negotiations are clarified, we will explain the results.
Meanwhile, relations between the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regarding the country's water rights from the Helmand River became tense in the past weeks, especially after the warning words of the Iranian president. This tension reached its peak with the border conflict in Nimroz province, but with the restraint of the senior officials of the two countries and the emphasis on good relations and pursuing issues through diplomatic and dialogue methods, this tension subsided and at the same time the water and border talks between the two sides continues.
