Polio Vaccination Campaign Will start in 23 provinces
The “polio vaccination campaign” will start in 23 provinces of the country. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health announced.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, It is planned that some six million children below the age of five will receive polio vaccination through this major campaign, according to the state-run Bakhtar news agency.
 
Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries in the world in which polio disease has not been fully eradicated.
 
As per the existing reports, the first positive case of polio disease was recorded in the Bati Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province in the current year.
 
Last year, two positive cases of polio disease were recorded in Paktika and Kunar provinces. In 2021, four positive polio cases were recorded as per the reports.
 
This communicable disease easily transmits through contact with an infected person’s stool or sneeze, affecting most children under the age of five.
 
Most infected persons do not have any unique symptoms. High fever, sore throat, headache, stomachache, body ache and vomiting are common symptoms of the disease.
 
The lack of proper healthcare services and facilities has paved the way for the spread of communicable diseases among children in Afghanistan.
 
Prolonged instability, hunger, poverty, drought and economic crisis have put the lives of millions of children at immediate risk of malnutrition and several other communicable diseases throughout the country, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
