Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, With a Richter scale value of 4.5, the quake rattled Faizabad capital city of Badakhshan province of Afghanistan on Thursday, the Indian National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.
According to the NCS, the earthquake took place on Thursday at 4:51 am local time at a depth of 172 Km, Tweeted NCS “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.5, Occurred on 11-05-2023, 05:51:03 IST, Lat: 36.33 & Long: 69.98, Depth: 172 Km, Location: 99km SSW of Fayzabad, Afghanistan.”
There have been no casualties as of yet. Further details are awaited.
Earlier, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) tweeted on Tuesday that a magnitude of 4.3 struck Afghanistan 116 kilometres to the southeast of Fayzabad.
The province is one of the disaster-prone regions in the country. Recently, the number of quakes has increased in the region.
Afghanistan is one of the most vulnerable countries regarding natural disasters, including earthquakes, flash flooding, landslide, heavy rain and avalanches. As a result, it requires additional caution and measures to reduce the severity of the disasters in the country.
