UAE’s GAAC signs final contract for Afghanistan’s airports

 

UAE state-linked GAAC already secured contracts from the group to manage ground services and security of the airports in Afghanistan.

 

Afghanistan’s civil aviation sector has been plagued with significant challenges in recent years. The airports, particularly after the withdrawal of the international forces faced critical issues, and many international airlines suspended flights to Afghanistan.

 

After almost two years, GAAC has announced that Afghanistan’s airports are ready for international flights in terms of performance and safety – adding the UAE-based company has invested $641,000 on facility management, ground support equipment, and technologies to improve airport performance.

 

The contracts are anticipated to help the Islamic Emirate emerge out of isolation as it struggles to gain recognition from the international community.

 

GAAC Holding signed the first contract with the then-Afghan government in November 2020, according to which the company was assigned to deliver ground transportation services and superior services at three international airports Kabul, Kandahar and Herat.

 

In May 2022, GAAC signed a second contract with the Afghanistan transport and civil aviation ministry under the Islamic Emirate administration (MoTCA) to operate and manage air navigation services in Afghanistan.

 

The achievements of the UAE-based company are outstanding in Afghanistan. Since the commencement of its operation, the GAAC has provided quality services to some 1.5 million passengers and has moved more than 40,000 tons of cargo. The company has employed more than 1000 local staff and has trained them in accordance with international standards.
