Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitri Koliba arrived in Baghdad this morning (Monday) as part of an official visit.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): "Ahmad Al-Sahaf", the spokesman of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, announced this morning (Monday, April 18, 2023) about the visit of the Foreign Minister of Ukraine to Baghdad.

According to the official news agency of Iraq (WAA), Al-Sahaf announced in a statement that "Dimitri Koliba" entered Baghdad on an official visit.

During this trip, he is supposed to meet and consult with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani and Fawad Hossein, Iraqi Foreign Minister.

Before this, there were news about Iraq's attempt to mediate between Ukraine and Russia.

On Monday last week, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with Mohammad Shia al-Sudani.

In this phone call, the Prime Minister of Iraq emphasized the importance of reaching a peaceful solution in Ukraine and taking the path of dialogue to end the crisis in this country, which has caused many challenges.

In this phone call, Zelensky also emphasized that Iraq is an important and central state and he emphasizes on the development of relations with Iraq in all fields.

From February 24, 2022 (5th of Pisces 1400), after recognizing the independence of Luhansk and Donetsk republics from Ukraine, Russia sent troops to this region and announced the beginning of "special military operations in Ukraine".

Russia announced its goal of this action to de-Nazify Ukraine, disarm this country, resolve its security concerns and respond to Luhansk and Donetsk's request for help.

However, the Ukrainian government has not recognized the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk and has called Russia's military presence an "aggression and attack on its territorial integrity".
