Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to the schedule announced on the United Nations website, Japan's representative to the United Nations will preside over the meetings of the Security Council from January 1st to the 30th of this month.

Last month (December), India held the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council.

Japan joined the UN Security Council on Sunday as a non-permanent member, starting a two-year term amid growing calls to reform the world body after it failed to end the war in Ukraine.

For the 12th time since its membership in the United Nations in 1956, Tokyo will take over the non-permanent seat of the Security Council after the previous term of 2017-2016.
