Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Herat: The second round of the polio vaccination campaign in Herat province was held today, Monday 28th of August, with the participation of officials from government departments, public health officials and partner institutions at the provincial headquarters.
Mohammad Asif Kabir, Deputy Public Health of Herat Province, says: We successfully implemented the measles and polio campaign in the previous period.
He asked the Directorates of Information and Culture, Guidance, Hajj and Awqaf and other departments to cooperate with the health sector in the next periods in order to inform families.
Dr. Kabir also added: It has been 27 months since the western region has seen polio cases and he hopes that this dangerous disease will be eradicated from the whole country as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Mullah Dastgir Elham, head of human resources of Herat province, said: Herat local administration is in sync with the health sector and this program will be implemented properly.
This round of polio vaccination is supposed to be implemented in the city and Anjil district (displaced people, mania and slaughterhouse camps) and Shindand district from Monday to Thursday for children under five years of age.
Meanwhile, the health authorities are asking all families to vaccinate their children against this dangerous disease.
It is said that in this round of the campaign, 277,000 children under the age of five will receive the polio vaccine.
