Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Abdul Haq Al-Asar, deputy of counternarcotics of the Ministry of Interior, said during his visit to Badghis province that more than 43,000 kilograms of narcotics have been seized from all over the country in the past year.
Mr. Colleague added: "Over the past year, we have conducted 1,700 operations and arrested about 2,000 smugglers and those who worked for drugs."
A number of tribal elders and civil activists of Badghis province have called for the provision of alternative poppy cultivation for farmers in a meeting with the Minister of Narcotics Control of the Ministry of Interior.
Mohammad Omar, one of the tribal elders in Badghis, said that when the poppy cultivation is going to be destroyed, it should be given to the farmers so that they don't turn to poppy cultivation again.
Agha Arbab, a civil activist in Badghis province, also emphasized the government's seriousness in eradicating poppy cultivation and said that the plan should be implemented 100% and an alternative to drug cultivation should be provided to the people.
At the same time, the local officials of Badghis have also emphasized on preventing poppy cultivation and drug production and said that they will provide alternative fields for farmers.
Abdul Samad Javed, governor of Badghis, added, "At any cost, we intend to implement this plan and we will implement it."
Mohsen Ehsan, Head of Badghis Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, considered planting trees (pistachios) and planting plants (asafoetida) as an alternative to drug cultivation in Badghis and assured the cooperation of this department with farmers.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Anti-Narcotics has also said that during the past year, 84,000 drug addicts have been collected from all over the country for the purpose of treatment.
