IEA: Don’t use sanctions as tool
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has asked the United Nations Security Council to eschew using sanctions as a tool of coercion.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, Under the Doha Agreement, restrictions and curbs on Islamic Emirate officials should be lifted, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

Through their actions, the West could trigger a spat with Afghanistan instead of giving diplomacy and interaction a fair chance, MoFA deputy spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal warned.

On Friday evening, the 15-member UN body appeared clearly divided on travel ban exemptions for more than a dozen Taliban leaders.

As Russia and China supported continued exemptions for all 13 Islamic Emirate officials, the United States and Western countries insisted on reducing the number and re-imposing the curbs on some members of the new Afghan government.

Amid differences among powerful UNSC members, the travel ban could be restored on all 13 Islamic Emirate officials until Monday afternoon.

“MoFA calls on UNSC not to use sanctions as a pressure tool. It was agreed in the Doha Agreement that all sanctions shall be removed, a clause that should be implemented in full,” ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi tweeted.

Any extension in the travel ban would create a distance between Afghanistan and the Western world, an outcome that must be prevented,” Balkhi wrote.
