Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): ABC News reported on Wednesday, July 20, that the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria stated: "The Syrian Republic has decided to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine in accordance with the principle of reciprocity."
The statement said that in fact, Ukraine severed ties with Syria in 2018 because the country refused to renew the residency of Syrian diplomatic staff in Kyiv, and the Syrian embassy suspended its duties at the time.
With the recognition of the "independence and sovereignty" of the separatist regions of Luhansk and Donetsk by Damascus, in late June, Ukraine severed its relations with Syria.
The news of the severance of Syria's relations with Ukraine was published while Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Moqdad was in Tehran to meet with Iranian officials a day after the meeting of the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey.
