Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): On Tuesday, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine called on the West to provide significantly more accurate artillery systems to his country, stressing that these systems can "change the situation" and "set the stage for a counter-attack against Russian soldiers will provide."
Since the middle of June, the US has delivered some Hymars precision artillery systems with a range of 80 kilometers to Ukraine and is going to deliver more systems.
"These systems allow us to destroy about 30 command posts and ammunition depots," Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said at the Atlantic Council, according to AFP from Washington.
He added: "This significantly slows down the advance of the Russians and greatly reduces the intensity of their artillery fire. As a result, these systems work. We appreciate our partners. I think we need at least a hundred Hymars for an effective counter attack. "It can change the situation on the battlefield."
Reznikov also demanded the delivery of systems with a longer range - between 100 and 150 kilometers - in order to cut off Russian forces' access to their support equipment.
The US President Joe Biden's administration refused to hand over such weapons for fear that Ukraine would use such weapons to target targets inside Russia, thus potentially bringing Western countries into direct confrontation with Moscow.
At the same time, the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that it will send a new weapons package to Ukraine this week. This weapon package includes HIMARS launch systems.
