Some tribal elders in Nangarhar are regularly paid by Taliban
Some tribal elders in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province receive monthly payment from the Taliban.
The payment ranges from 5,000 afghanis to 1,000 afghanis, according to the provincial council and tribal elders.
Ajmal Omer, deputy of the provincial council, said that by paying the elders, the Taliban seek to gain their support.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that they give some money to local elders and religious clerics to get fuel for their cars and spend in reconstruction of mosques.
Ataullah Khogyani, a spokesman for provincial governor, however, said that they had received no information in this regard.
