Taliban insist on release of their prisoners based on given list

This comes as the government has said that it would not release nearly 600 prisoners from the list because they have serious criminal cases.
Mohammad Nabi Omari, a member of Taliban’s political office in Qatar, has accused the government of fabricating criminal cases against the prisoners.
He said that the deal between the US and the Taliban was a political deal and it was necessary to investigate allegations against the prisoners.
Omari also said that foreign governments’ reported objection to release of some of their prisoners was a clear interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan.
Under the US-Taliban deal, 5,000 Taliban prisoners and 1,000 government prisoners would be freed by March 10, when intra-Afghan negotiations were scheduled to begin.
The Afghan government has released 4,400 Taliban prisoners while the group has freed 845.
“The responsibility of all bloody incidents over the last four months is on (the Afghan government) because it should have released our 5,000 by March 15. We were ready to release their 1,000 prisoners in 10 days,” said Shahabuddin Delawar, a member of Taliban’s political office in Qatar, said.
Another member of the office, Noorullah Noori, said that Taliban has not declared a ceasefire with the Afghan forces. “Attacks on checkpoints and districts and public routes will continue as there is no ceasefire between us and Kabul,” Noori said.
Meanwhile, US charge d' affaires in Kabul, Ross Wilson, on Sunday urged the Afghanleaders to"promptly to establish the new government, create the High Council for National Reconciliation, complete the exchange of prisoners, and move to the opening of intra-Afghan negotiations."
"The Afghan people have made clear their impatience. Start intra-Afghan negotiations now so that discussions on a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire can begin," Wilson said on Twitter.
