Poles Stranded in Afghanistan Return to Poland by Military Plane
Polish citizens stranded in Kabul, due to the pandemic, have been flown back to Poland aboard a military plane, the Armed Forces Operational Command has reported. Soldiers from Operation Resolute Support assisted in the transport.
This was the first military operation to transport civilians from Afghanistan due to the deterioration of security there and the impossibility to leave the country after air traffic was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Armed Forces Operational Command, which Polish military contingents abroad are subject to, the journalists, medics, contract employees and 10 Polish citizens were stranded in Afghanistan two months ago. They returned to Poland on May 4.
Before being flown to Poland aboard a CASA C-295M military transport plane from the 8th Transport Aviation Base, all of the evacuated persons underwent medical examinations.
