COVID-19: New 906 positive cases recorded, 99 recovered so far in Afghanistan
The Ministry of Public Health on Friday reported 66 new cases of the coronavirus in the country, taking the total to 906, amid fears over the lack of testing kits and other health supplies.
The new cases were confirmed from 465 samples that were tested over the last 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said.
According to him, out of the 66 positive cases, 26 cases were reported in Kabul, 15 in Kandahar, six in Balkh, five in Kunduz, five in Herat, four in Helmand, three in Laghman, one in Nangarhar and one in Kunar.
He added that 45 coronavirus patients have fully recovered and were discharged from hospital on Thursday which takes the total to 99.
According to Mayar, the recovery cases are 11% while deaths are 3.3%. So far, 30 people have died of the coronavirus in the country.
The country’s laboratories have the capacity to conduct 600 tests a day, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
This comes as Kabul lockdown was extended for another three weeks on Thursday as part of attempts to slow the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
The total number of cases of the coronavirus has reached more than 2.15 million globally, according to John Hopkins University.
The United States is at the top with over 22,000 deaths and over 671,000 confirmed cases.
