The attack happened in an area between Bato Kheil and Hasan Kheil in Mohammad Agha district, said Didar Lawang, a spokesman for provincial governor.
There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.
It happened hours after a spokesman for the Taliban reportedly announced that its fighters will resume normal attacks against Afghan forces, following a seven-day reduction in violence that led to the signing of peace deal with the United States.
Meanwhile in Paktika, a tribal elder was killed by gunmen on Monday evening, a statement from the provincial governor’s office said.
The incident happened while the victim was on his way to mosque in Yahya Kheil district, the statement said.
