A total of 262 people, 233 of them Afghans, arrived in Afghanistan from China over the past one week and they were under surveillance in their homes, Minister Ferozuddin Feroz said told a press conference.
He said that screening has begun in airports and land ports to prevent spread of coronavirus to Afghanistan, “but it is not 100 percent guaranteed that it will never enter spread.”
On the situation of 41 Afghan students in China’s Wuhan city, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, Feroz said that none of them had contracted the virus.
He said that Afghanistan is ready to evacuate them to their home country, but added the World Health Organization advises against doing so before the emergency situation ends.
According to Feroz, one Afghan returned from Wuhan city on January 5, but he had not contracted coronavirus and was living along with his family in Kandahar.
Feroz said that diagnosis for coronavirus was difficult in Afghanistan, adding authorities would share blood samples from suspected cases with WHO.
