An Afghan national was arrested at Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi on Sunday for allegedly trying to smuggle about 1 kg of gold into the country, The Times of India reported.

The passenger was intercepted after his arrival from Mazar-e-Sharif, capital of Balkh province, a senior Indian customs official told Times of India.
On further investigation, the accused admitted to having smuggled in another 400 grams of gold during his previous visit. Officials said they suspect the accused to be a part of a bigger smuggling operation and are investigating the matter.
