Moreover, some senators emphasized that President Ashraf Ghani, who is expected to visit Islamabad, should ask Pakistani officials to pressure Taliban to join peace process and end violence.
“We are calling on the government of Pakistan to use its influence over Taliban and force them to join the peace process. If Pakistan does not use its influence, the Taliban will not join peace process,” said Muhiuddin Munsef, a senate member.
“Pakistan as a neighbor country of Afghanistan must make a commitment to the international community. The United States and other countries should guarantee and monitor Pakistan’s commitments unless the violence will continue in Afghanistan,” said Gul Ahmad Azami, another senator.
Meanwhile, Senate Speaker Fazel Hadi Muslimyar called on the Afghan forces to maintain security measures as peace talks move forward.
In addition, on Tuesday session, senators decided to summon security officials over recent insecurities in the country.
