At least eight Afghan police and uprising forces were killed after Taliban insurgents attacked a security checkpoint in northern Takhar province before dawn on Tuesday, an official said.
Mohammad Jawad Hijri, a spokesman for provincial governor, said that the insurgents attacked the checkpoint in Charsiha area, Khwaja Bahauddin district around 1:30a.m.
He said that the attack triggered a clash which lasted for several hours.
The official said militants also suffered casualties, but declined to provide an exact figure.
