Afghan forces lay siege to ex-Taliban leader’s house in Kabul: Sources
The Afghan security forces have laid a siege to residential house of a former Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef in Kabul, sources privy of the development said Sunday.
According to the sources, the siege was laid late on Saturday night and the residence of Mullah Zaeef is still besieged by the security forces.
Mullah Zaeef was serving as the Ambassador of Taliban to Pakistan while Taliban regime was in power.
He was reportedly handed over to U.S. authorities after the fall of Taliban regime following the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.
Mullah Zaeef spent several years in Guantanamo Bay detention facility and returned to Kabul after he was releasaed.
He started a normal life in Kabul after his release but continued to his political activities and was considered as of the involved individuals in ongoing peace efforts.
