Twenty-six Afghan soldiers jailed over army mosque attack in Khost

At least 29 Afghan soldiers were killed while 72 more wounded in the attack that hit a mosque inside the headquarters of the Afghan Army’s 1^st Brigagde, 203^rd Corps on 23 November. The attack happened during Friday prayers.
After the suicide attack, President Ashraf Ghani ordered an investigation to find out those who committed negligence.
The commander of 1st Brigade, Brigadier General Khalilullah Khalil, was sentenced to five years in prison and the other convicts were sentenced to 5-30 years in jail.
‌Brigadier General Ghulam Din Mohammad Mal, the head of the military court in 203rd Army Corp, said that one person was sentenced to 30 years, six to 25 years, 12 to five years and five more including the commander of the brigade were sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Meanwhile, the defense lawyers of the convicts said that the trial was unfair and that concrete evidence had not been provided over their cases. They blamed intelligence institutions for failing to prevent the attack.
