China Hails Iran's Key Role in Restoring Peace to Afghanistan

AVA- "China is thankful of the international community, in particular, the regional states, including Iran, for their efforts to establish sustainable peace in Afghanistan," China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang said on Saturday.
The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman's remarks came after a Taliban delegation recently visited Iran.
"China has always supported the peace process in Afghanistan," Lu said.
He reiterated that Beijing supports the joint efforts by Iran for promotion of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
The Taliban spokesman Zabihollah Mojahed praised Iran's attempts to establish peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Mojahed's remarks came after Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Taliban delegation's recent visit to Tehran was aimed at facilitating peace talks in Afghanistan.
In relevant remarks on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi confirmed that a Taliban delegation held extensive talks with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi in Tehran.
The meeting followed a recent visit by Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani to Afghanistan during which he held talks with Afghan officials, he said.
On Dec 26, Shamkhani went to Kabul at the invitation of National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Hamdullah Mohib.
During his one-day stay in Kabul, Shamkhani met with Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah.
Widening of political, economic and security relations, countering terrorism and organized crimes, and border and regional cooperation were among the goals of Shamkhani's visit to Afghanistan.
