A suicide car bomb explosion rocked the central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan earlier today amid reports at least 17 people have been killed or wounded.
Provincial police spokesman Hekmatullah Kamrani confirmed the incident and said a car bomb was detonated near the police academy in Maidan Shar city.
According to the preliminary reports, at least five people have been killed and at least twelve others have sustained injuries in the explosion.
The Taliban militants group in Afghanistan claimed responsibility behind the incident.
A spokesman for the Taliban group Zabiullah Mujahid claims that a military base has been targeted and as a result several security officers have been killed or wounded.
