First consignment of India
India's first consignment of chickpea assistance to Afghanistan reached Kabul via Chabahar port on Wednesday.
It is part of 1,998 metric tons of chickpea India has pledged to assist to Afghanistan.
Earlier, India pledged to supply 1.1 million tons of wheat to Afghanistan and delivered, the first shipment of which was sent via Chabahar port late last year.
The new consignment of chickpea will be stored in the provinces of Kabul, Nimroz, Herat, Kandahar and Zabul and will be delivered to people in need, said Tahir Ayoub, deputy minister of agriculture, irrigation and livestock.
Meanwhile, Deputy Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Abhishek Singh hoped that said that food security is of importance, reiterating his country’s continued support to the war-torn nation.
The diplomat said that Chabhar port could boost trade between Afghanistan and India, adding Afghanistan could export its fresh fruits to India via the port.
